Benidorm has unveiled a CD devoted to its oldest folklore, created by musician Francisco Romero, known as 'El Bessó', director of the Colla de Xirimiters de la Marina. The recording gathers traditional pieces linked to festive days: the despertà, street parades, the Ofrenda, the Ball del Peuet, and the well-known Copletes a la Mare de Déu del Sofratge, a popular verse believed to date from the mid-to-late 19th century.
During the presentation, speakers noted that much of this repertoire has been passed down orally for generations and risks disappearing if the celebrations tied to it fade away. For this reason, the album also includes historical recordings of performers who have since passed away, their voices preserved alongside those of singers still active in the tradition today.
For guests staying in the Old Town, near the Mirador de Benidorm, such initiatives offer a different way of getting to know the city: beyond the beach, Benidorm holds on to a musical heritage that remains alive during its main festivities, now documented for anyone wishing to discover it.
