The Ermita de Sanz, set in Benidorm's rural Horta area, hosted another edition of the Sopar d'Estiu, the popular dinner organised each year by the Comissió de Festes del Roser. The event brought together more than 350 diners, including neighbours from the area, residents from other parts of town, and local officials such as the mayor and the councillor for festivities.
The gathering helps raise funds for the festivities to be held in October at this site, the result of weeks of preparation by the volunteer organisers. After dinner came a prize draw, and the night continued with music and an affordable drinks bar well into the early hours.
This kind of local celebration shows the festive calendar that Benidorm keeps alive beyond its beaches and seafront. Visitors staying in the town centre can get a glimpse of these traditions, which combine simple food and a neighbourly atmosphere in one of the city's most historic corners.
