The traditional Festive Music Concert at the Óscar Esplá Auditorium, in Parc de l'Aigüera, has symbolically kicked off Benidorm's Moors and Christians Festival. During the evening, the winning piece of the 25th Villa de Benidorm Music Composition Contest was announced: the pasodoble 'Lliriet de Thous', composed by Marcos Verdú Verdú and premiered by the Societat Musical La Nova. The title refers to a spring in a local district and pays tribute to Benidorm-born composer Maximiliano Thous, author of the lyrics of the Valencian Community's anthem.
The event also featured the exaltation of the 2026 Christian kings, Alberto Sánchez Belmonte and Silvia Gois Llorca, from the Filà Cruzados, along with the official proclamation delivered by episcopal vicar Juan Bautista Samper, who moved the audience with his speech on the deep roots of these festivities in local identity.
The Moors and Christians Festival begins next week, with the Moorish-Christian Parade as one of its main events on Saturday night. Guests staying at Apartamentos Playa Pequeña, near the Mirador de Benidorm and just steps from the Old Town, will have easy access to the main venues of this celebration, which carries special meaning this year due to the centenary of the Valencian anthem.
