Benidorm has wrapped up its Moors and Christians festival, recognised as a Local Tourist Interest event, with the reading of the Peace Parliament in SS MM Los Reyes de España square. Written by Pere Maria Orts i Bosch in 1990, this text stages a dialogue between the Christian castle keeper and the Muslim prince, ending in mutual recognition and peace between both sides.
The night before, thousands of locals and visitors watched the Grand Entry parade through the historic centre, a colourful procession that ended in front of the town hall. After the Peace Parliament reading, the participating groups walked in procession to the Sant Jaume i Santa Anna church, accompanied by municipal authorities, the festival queens and organising committee representatives, to pay tribute to the city's patron saint and attend the traditional mass.
The day closed in the afternoon with the retreat parade, the final event of the programme, which retraced the route of the Grand Entry. Guests staying in central Benidorm, near the Old Town, can enjoy these celebrations almost from their doorstep, taking in the festive atmosphere that fills the streets during these special days.
