Mal Pas beach hosted an unusual environmental awareness activity led by mermaids and mermen from various countries. The event, organised together with the Aqua Natura water park, is part of an international convention dedicated to this artistic community currently taking place in Benidorm, blending performance with marine awareness messages.
Throughout the morning an information tent was set up to explain to swimmers and curious visitors, many of them children, the importance of the posidonia seagrass meadows growing off the Benidorm coast. This marine plant acts as a natural water filter, provides shelter for many species and protects beaches from erosion, even though it remains little known to the general public.
The city council took the opportunity to highlight its ongoing sustainability efforts, including its bid for a European green city recognition. Guests staying near the Old Town and the Mirador de Benidorm can easily reach this beach and see for themselves why its waters are known for their clarity.
